Timberwolves hope to take advantage of struggling Hawks

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:15 AM Atlanta (27-20) at Minnesota (17-30) 8:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- A three-game slide was a bump for the resurgent Minnesota Timberwolves.

They will be looking to start a winning streak when they face the struggling Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

After going 10-2 to begin January, the Timberwolves seemed to be falling back into the form that saw them begin the season with a 6-25 mark during a three-game slide.

Minnesota rebounded in fine form on Tuesday, putting seven players in double figure while coming from behind in a 116-111 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Randy Foye led the way with 19 points while Al Jefferson offset a rare low-scoring performance (12 points) with 15 rebounds.

The Hawks have fallen on hard times, dropping four of five overall and seven of nine on the road.

Atlanta has been off since Saturday, giving the team plenty of time to think about its 110-107 loss at Milwaukee. The Hawks allowed the Bucks to shoot 52 percent from the field and sent them to the free-throw line 30 times.

Joe Johnson scored 22 points against Milwaukee but shot 8-of-23 from the field. Johnson has hit 50 percent or better from the floor once in the last 18 games.
