Nuggets look to take advantage of Wizards

Feb 6, 2009 - 11:19 AM Denver (33-16) at Washington (10-39) 8:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After scraping out a win against one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets hope to have an easier time against the Eastern Conference's worst.

The Nuggets will be looking for their fourth straight win when they face the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Denver lost point guard Chauncey Billups to a sprained right ankle on Tuesday and struggled without him against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. The starting backcourt of Anthony Carter and Dahntay Jones combined for just 15 points without Billups, who is listed as day-to-day.

Carmelo Anthony picked up the load with 32 points and 11 assists against the Thunder and providing the winning margin with a runner in the lane with 5.3 seconds left. Anthony is averaging nearly 29 points in three games since returning from a hand injury.

The Wizards are struggling as well, with Caron Butler missing Wednesday's contest against the New Jersey Nets due to the flu. Washington dressed only eight players in the 115-88 drubbing.

The Wizards have lost seven of eight and have failed to reach 100 points in any of their setbacks. The normally reliable Antawn Jamison had a rough time finding the bucket against the Nets, collecting 10 points on 4-of-20 shooting.

Washington has already matched its total of losses from last season.
