Jazz visit Warriors looking for fourth straigth win
Feb 8, 2009 - 8:22 AM Utah (29-22) at Golden State (16-35) 9:00 p.m. ESTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Winning back-to-back games on the road has been a rare feat for the Utah Jazz this season. Then again, defeating the Jazz has been just as difficult for the Golden State Warriors.
A pair of trends collide on Sunday night as the Warriors host the Jazz in a Western Conference clash.
Utah has had a rough time away from home while battling through a litany of injuries that began in the preseason. With just 10 wins in 26 chances away from Salt Lake City, the team has struggled no matter the opponent - a point proven by road losses to the likes of the lowly Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats.
However, the Jazz have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Warriors dating to their 4-1, second-round playoff victory in 2007. They have won three straight overall for the first time in a month - and Deron Williams' improving health has been a big part of that. While the star point guard did miss a meeting with the Bobcats earlier this week, he seems to be mostly recovered from the severe ankle sprain that hobbled him for much of the first two months of the campaign.
He has posted three consecutive 30-point games - and in his most recent effort, anyway, the Jazz needed every point. He went for 34 points, including the go-ahead driving layup with 20 seconds remaining to lead Utah to a 111-107 win over Sacramento.
Golden State is coming off a home-and-home series with the struggling Phoenix Suns, splitting a pair of high-powered contests. Stephen Jackson posted his first career triple-double to lead the Warriors to a 124-112 rout on Wednesday, but the Suns returned the favor two nights later with a 115-105 triumph.
