Timberwolves look for quick recovery against Hornets

Feb 8, 2009 - 8:22 AM Minnesota (17-32) at New Orleans (29-18) 7:00 p.m. EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- After enduring one of their most disappointing losses of the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves face yet another stiff test on Sunday.

Fresh off a 17-point defeat to the Houston Rockets, the T-Wolves stay on the road for one more night as they visit the "Big Easy" for a showdown with the New Orleans Hornets.

Minnesota's recent struggles continued in rather inexplicable fashion on Saturday, as the team squandered a third-quarter lead and self-destructed down the stretch, falling to Houston in a loss that was much more lopsided than it probably should have been.

Al Jefferson was manhandling Yao Ming on the offensive end for most of the first three quarters and finished with 36 points and 22 boards, but he didn't get enough help in the second half as the Rockets stormed back and ran away with it.

Now they have to face another of the top teams in the Western Conference on the road - although the Hornets will likely be without All-NBA point guard Chris Paul for the third straight game. The fourth-year star is suffering from a strained right groin.

The Hornets have gone 1-1 in his absence, catching fire from 3-point range on Wednesday en route to a 101-92 triumph over the lowly Toronto Raptors.
