Trail Blazers close out first half in good shape

Feb 12, 2009 - 11:23 AM Portland (32-19) at Golden State (18-35) 10:30 p.m. EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Fresh off their biggest offensive outburst of the season, the Golden State Warriors put a two-game winning streak on the line as they get set for the All-Star break.

The Warriors dropped 144 points on the New York Knicks in a 17-point rout on Tuesday. They stay home Thursday to take on the Portland Trail Blazers in a Western Conference clash.

Those 144 points may be tough to match - or even approach - in this one, as the Blazers give up just 95 points per game, third-best in the West. As opposed to the Warriors, who play a fast, free-wheeling style, Portland likes to slow things down and win with efficient, mistake-free basketball.

The Blazers have recovered nicely from a two-game skid last week, responding with consecutive wins over the Knicks and Thunder. They have won seven of nine overall.

In Wednesday's 106-92 triumph over Oklahoma City, Brandon Roy led six players in double figures with 22 points, while Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge registered double-doubles.

After missing the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, the Blazers go into the All-Star break primed for their first postseason trip since 2003. In fact, they may even get to host one round on their home court. They currently sit in the fourth slot in the Western Conference.
