After big loss, Hawks have quick turnaround vs. Kings

Feb 18, 2009 - 11:29 AM Atlanta (31-22) at Sacramento (11-43) 10:00 p.m. EST

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Tuesday night provided more than enough humility for the Atlanta Hawks. The second night of their post-All-Star, five-game road trip may be a bit of a reprieve.

After getting manhandled by the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center - a 13-point loss that wasn't nearly that close - the Hawks follow with a showdown against the lowest-ranked club in the NBA. They look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday as they visit the reeling Sacramento Kings.

With a league-worst 43 losses, the Kings have had their share of miseries this season - an injury to their best player, a coaching change, trade rumors, uncertainty surrounding their very existence in the city of Sacramento.

The action on the basketball court hasn't been any better. They closed the first half with five straight losses - and that was on the heels of an eight-game skid, with one win over lowly Oklahoma City sandwiched in between.

After a week off, they will try to snap their recent slide against an Atlanta squad that will be on the second leg of a back-to-back.

Prior to Tuesday's loss, the Hawks had recovered nicely from a miserable January, winning four of their last five games of the first half. They remain in the No. 4 slot in the Eastern Conference standings, 2 1/2 games ahead of fifth-place Miami (28-24).
