Surging Nuggets look to continue strong trip
Feb 18, 2009 - 11:30 AM Denver (36-17) at Philadelphia (27-25) 7:00 p.m. ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets are preparing for a second-half surge.
The Nuggets will begin their march to a Northwest Division title when they face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.
Denver is 4-1 on its eight-game road trip and has won six of its last seven overall to move into second place in the Western Conference.
The stellar record and recent surge means the Nuggets plan to be relatively quite during Thursday's trading deadline. Denver already made its big move of the season in November when it sent Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Chauncey Billups.
Billups has been key to the Nuggets' strong play, averaging 18.2 points and 6.1 assists while knocking down 39 percent of his 3-point attempts since the trade.
The Sixers had their four-game winning streak halted on Tuesday in a 100-89 loss to the Indiana Pacers. Andre Iguodala had 20 points in the setback.
The Nuggets won the first meeting, 105-101, on December 26. J.R. Smith led the way with 27 points and Billups chipped in 10 assists.
