Harris, Nets look to hold momentum vs. Bulls
Feb 25, 2009 - 11:27 AM Chicago (26-31) at New Jersey (25-32) 7:30 p.m. ESTEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Devin Harris gave the New Jersey Nets a lift in spectacular fashion on Monday. The point guard and the Nets will try to make that momentum carry over when they face the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
With New Jersey trailing, 96-95, with 1.8 seconds left, Harris took an inbounds pass and streaked up the left side. He lost the ball and got it back in one motion while flinging it at the basket from halfcourt, just beating the buzzer.
"I was trying to draw the foul and I kind of lost it as I bumped into (Andre Iguodala) it kind of fumbled through my hands," Harris said. "At the last second I kind of just heaved it up. How, I don't know. Just tried to get it in the right direction and it ended up going in. As I'm going into his body, the ball kind of went into his chest, came back to me and then I heaved it down."
The officials took at look at the replay but eventually ruled that Harris got the shot off before the buzzer, snapping the Nets' five-game losing streak and setting off a raucous celebration.
The Bulls are coming off a satisfying win as well, handling Eastern Conference power Orlando, 120-102 on Tuesday. Derrick Rose led seven players in double figures with 22 points as Chicago shot 57 percent.
Newcomers Tim Thomas, John Salmons and Brad Miller all came off the bench and combined for 37 points in the upset.
The teams met twice in December, with the Bulls taking both meetings.
