Nuggets, Blazers face off in key divisional battle
Mar 5, 2009 - 11:12 AM Portland (38-22) at Denver (39-22) 10:30 p.m. ESTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Northwest Division is officially a three-team race. The next two days will be crucial to all three.
The Denver Nuggets, having seen their stranglehold on divisional supremacy dwindle to a half-game lead, host the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night in a showdown with key playoff seeding implications.
The Blazers are just behind Denver. But that isn't all the Nuggets have to be concerned about. After meeting up with the Blazers, on they visit the Utah Jazz (38-23) - who are one game behind - on Friday night.
The team's recent performance certainly isn't a promising sign. The Nuggets have dropped two games in a row and five of seven. The Blazers have won three straight, including a come-from-behind, 107-105 triumph over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.
Brandon Roy drew a foul with 1.7 seconds left and buried two free throws to provide the final margin.
