Williams leads Jazz to 11th straight win
Mar 8, 2009 - 8:24 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Deron Williams scored 25 points and handed out nine assists Sunday, leading the Utah Jazz to their 11th straight victory, a 109-101 decision over the slumping Toronto Raptors.Utah has won 14 of their past 15 games while the Raptors are winless in their past five.
Williams was 10-of-18 from the floor and had five of his points during an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter that gave Utah a 97-93 lead with 5:22 remaining.
"It was a sloppy game at first it took a little while to warm up," Williams said. "I know it took a little while for me to wake up. But when we finally got going there in the second half, I thought we did a great job of closing out the ballgame."
Kyle Korver added 20 points off the bench for the Jazz, who also got 19 points from Mehmet Okur and 18 apiece from Paul Millsap and Andrei Kirilenko.
Chris Bosh paced the Raptors with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
"I'm just looking at the next game and I don't really care to define a loss anymore - a loss is a loss I just move on," Bosh said. "Yeah they're the best team in the league right now - they have 11 wins in a row and it really doesn't matter who we play we're just trying to win games."
Andrea Bargnani added 20 points, while Anthony Parker added 16 and Jose Calderon finished with 10 for Toronto.
Bosh scored 15 of his points in the third quarter as the Raptors took an 87-81 lead into the fourth.
But after Jason Kapono knocked down a jumper to begin the final quarter, Kirilenko scored six straight points to bring the Jazz back.
Utah finally took the lead with 6:33 remaining. After a scramble for a loose ball, the Jazz won the jump ball, sending Kirilenko in alone for a layup.
The Raptors were outscored 28-14 in the fourth, shooting 6-for-19.
"In the fourth quarter we played more aggressive defensively and that's why we got the win," Kirilenko said.
