Lakers hope to avoid back-to-back losses vs. Rockets

Mar 11, 2009 - 6:17 AM LA Lakers (50-13) at Houston (42-23) 8:30 p.m. EDT

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers have not done much losing this season, but when they have it seems to come in pairs. They will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses when they face the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

The Lakers own the best record in the NBA and have yet to suffer through a losing streak of three games or more, but they have dropped back-to-back contests on three occasions this season - including last week at Denver and Phoenix.

The road bit Los Angeles again on Monday at it suffered a 111-94 loss at Portland. Kobe Bryant scored 26 points but only two other Lakers reached double figures.

Los Angeles will be without one of its top scorers, Lamar Odom, who was suspended one game for leaving the bench during an altercation against the Blazers.

Houston, meanwhile, has won three straight and is climbing up the Western Conference standings despite being without Tracy McGrady for the rest of the season.

The Rockets got 22 points from Ron Artest Monday in a 97-95 win over the Denver Nuggets.
