Carter, Kidd lift Nets past Bucks

Dec 14, 2006 - 3:18 AM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- For the second straight game, Vince Carter and Jason Kidd carried the New Jersey Nets.

Carter scored 36 points and Kidd recorded another triple-double as the Nets pulled away for a 108-95 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the Nets' 105-92 victory over Memphis on Monday, Carter scored 37 points and Kidd registered a triple-double with 12 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds.

It was a similar formula 48 hours later as Carter made six 3-pointers and 12-of-23 shots from the field while Kidd collected 10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds en route to his fifth triple-double of the season and 80th career.

"I just took the shots that were there, didn't rush anything or force anything," Carter said. "Once I got going, it gave us a spark and gave us some energy."

"To have 10s across the board, it means I was involved in the game, but the most important thing is the win," Kidd said. "Just one more closer to 100."

"We dug ourselves a hole and we climbed back but Vince Carter and Jason Kidd kept making plays for them," Bucks coach Terry Stotts said.

Despite the big night from the Nets' 1-2 punch, the Bucks were within 79-77 with 10:48 remaining following Steve Blake's 3-pointer.

But the Nets took control, scoring nine straight and 12 of the next 14 points to build a 91-79 cushion with 6:55 after Mikki Moore split a pair of free throws. Marcus Williams started the run with a 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark and fellow rookie Hassan Adams had a dunk and layup during the burst.

Kidd gave credit to Adams.

"Hassan was the difference," Kidd said. "He came in and brought energy, offensively, defensively, and as a team we fed off that."

Nenad Krstic scored 13 points and Moore 12 for the Nets (9-12), who have put together back-to-back wins for just the third time this season.

New Jersey played the entire second half without small forward Richard Jefferson due to a sore right ankle.

The Nets also got it done defensively, holding Bucks star Michael Redd to a season-low nine points on 3-of-13 shooting. Redd entered third in the NBA in scoring, averaging 28.9 points.

"You just realize you have a lot more great games than bad games," Redd said. "They tried to lock me down, I had an extra body in front of me all night. They took away the drive, you just have to keep your head in the game."

"Mike had some looks but they were going at him hard, three to four guys at a time," Stotts said. "I credit the defense, they did a good job, but he missed some shots that normally go down for him."

Charlie Villanueva scored 23 points, Mo Williams 17 and Andrew Bogut had 15 and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who shot 47 percent (34-of-72) from the field.
