Gibbs leads Pitt past Binghamton 71-46
Nov 18, 2009 - 12:54 AM By ALAN ROBINSON AP Sports WriterPITTSBURGH(AP) -- Ashton Gibbs hit five 3-pointers in the first half as Pittsburgh quickly opened a 22-point lead and the Panthers emptied their bench Tuesday throughout a 71-46 victory over Binghamton, which lost its coach and much of its team during a troublesome offseason.
Gibbs ended with a career-high 22 points, going 6 of 10 on 3s. Brad Wanamaker added 14 points and Travon Woodall 10 in a game that wasn't expected to be as close as Pitt's 63-60 win over Wofford on Friday and understandably wasn't.
The decimated Bearcats (1-1) have a thin roster that includes five freshmen, six walk-ons, one part-time returning starter and no scorer who averaged more than 4.4 points last season. Kyrie Sutton, with 12, was the only double-digit scorer for Binghamton.
