Longwood beats Virginia-Wise 87-69

Dec 15, 2009 - 2:18 AM FARMVILLE, Va.(AP) -- Dana Smith scored a season-high 23 points and Antwan Carter recorded a double-double, leading Longwood to an 87-69 victory over Virginia-Wise on Monday night.

Carter, who came in leading Longwood with 15.8 points per game, scored 16 points and grabbed 13 boards. Billy Robinson Jr. scored 15 points and Kevin Swecker added 10 for the Lancers (2-9).

Robinson Jr. opened and capped Longwood's game-opening 12-0 run, and the Lancers never looked back.

Longwood led by 10 at halftime and outscored Virginia-Wise 51-43 in the second to seal the win.

The Lancers outscored Virginia-Wise 50-22 in the paint and scored 30 points off of 25 turnovers.

Sam Eligwe paced Virginia-Wise (5-5), an NAIA team, with 15 points and Travis Berry added 13.

Longwood won its second game in its last three tries after dropping eight straight to open the season.
