Savannah State defeats N.C. Central 46-44 in OT

Jan 21, 2010 - 4:21 AM SAVANNAH, Ga.(AP) -- Rashad Hassan scored 14 points to help Savannah State overcome a five-point first half and defeat North Carolina Central 46-44 in overtime on Wednesday night.

Hassan scored the first four points of overtime, hitting a layup 38 seconds into the extra period and sinking two free throws with 3:27 remaining for a 40-36 advantage.

The Eagles (4-17) cut it to 40-39 on Dwayne Sims' 3-pointer with 2:43 to go. But Tracy Rankins answered with his own 3 to lift Savannah State (7-12) to a 43-39 lead with 2:09 left.

Patrick Hardy's layup put the Tigers up 46-41 with 4 seconds to go.

Savannah State was just 1-for-16 from the field (6.3 percent) with 14 turnovers in the first half.

The Tigers then shot 50 percent in the second (13 of 26) and scored four points off of two N.C. Central turnovers in overtime.

Michael Glasker scored 10 points for the Eagles.
