Nakwaasah's big day helps Centenary tip IPFW 80-78

Feb 6, 2010 - 11:28 PM FORT WAYNE, Ind.(AP) -- Maxx Nakwaasah had a double-double and Centenary shot better than 60 percent Saturday in an 80-78 victory over IPFW.

Nakwaasah scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gentlemen (8-16, 3-10 Summit League), who made 32 of their 53 shots (60.4 percent) and swept the season series. Daman Starring added 14 points, and David Perez and Jeron Trotman scored 13 apiece.

Zach Plackemeier hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points to match Frank Gaines for the Mastodons (11-12, 6-7), who lost their second straight. Ben Botts added 13.

Centenary used an 11-4 run to take a 69-62 advantage with 4:45 left.

Gaines' free throw trimmed it to 78-77 with 16 seconds left. Nakwaasah sank two foul shots to make it 80-77.

Plackemeier made one free throw with 5 seconds left but missed the second. IPFW's Nick Daniels rebounded, but his shot at the buzzer was off the mark.
