Illinois-Chicago stuns No. 12 Illinois

Dec 18, 2010 - 10:13 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Darrin Williams converted a Robo Kreps missed layup late in regulation to help Illinois-Chicago stun 12th-ranked Illinois, 57-54, at the United Center.

Kreps scored 15 points and Paul Carter added 12 for the Flames (5-7), who snapped their losing streak at four games.

UIC notched its first win over the Fighting Illini since the 1990-91 campaign. The Flames had dropped the previous 10 meetings.

Demetri McCamey totaled 16 points to pace Illinois (10-2), which had won seven straight since losing to Texas on November 18.

The Flames led by as many as 10 points in the opening frame before the Fighting Illini rallied to pull even at the break.

UIC opened the second half on a 10-2 run to go up 38-30 on Zavion Neely's three-point play. Illinois battled back to grab its first lead of the game at 43-41 on consecutive three-pointers by McCamey and D.J. Richardson with 9:43 remaining.

Down 49-41, UIC scored 10 of the next 12 points to tie the game with 2:51 left.

After the teams traded free throws, Williams tipped in Kreps' miss to give the Flames a 55-54 lead with 23 seconds remaining. Richardson and McCamey both were off the mark from beyond the arc at the other end of the floor, and an offensive foul on Mike Tisdale sent Williams to the charity stripe with 3.5 seconds left. Williams made the first attempt before missing the second.

McCamey then stepped out of bounds after receiving the inbounds pass to effectively seal the victory for UIC.

Neely finished with 11 points and four assists...Richardson had 13 points in defeat...UIC made 7-of-15 from three-point range...The Fighting Illini shot 32.7 percent from the field.
