Butler handles St. Bonaventure

Feb 7, 2013 - 5:42 AM Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Rotnei Clarke had 17 points, five rebounds and five assists in No. 14 Butler's 77-58 win over St. Bonaventure.

Andrew Smith added 13 points and seven boards for the Bulldogs (19-4, 6-2 A-10), who have won back-to-back games after dropping two of their previous three.

"I wouldn't want to guard us," Butler guard Chase Stigall said. "We have so many weapons."

Demitrius Conger netted 18 points to lead the Bonnies (10-11, 3-5), who have gone 3-2 on the heels of a six-game skid.

Butler took a 39-30 edge into the break, but the spread swelled quickly in the second half.

After Jordan Gathers' layup pulled St. Bonaventure within 41-32, the Bulldogs went on a 15-3 run to open up a 21-point edge.

Kellen Dunham hit a 3-pointer and converted on a three-point play during the surge, which was capped on Smith's three-point play for a 56-35 Butler cushion.

The margin reached its apex at 24 down the stretch.

"In order for us to win, we had to play our 'A' game, and we certainly didn't," St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt said. "I think the game was won in the final three minutes of the first half."
