No. 25 Sooners handle TCU

Jan 23, 2014 - 6:23 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Buddy Hield led five Oklahoma players in double figures with 16 points as the 25th-ranked Sooners took a 77-69 win over TCU on Wednesday.

Cameron Clark scored 15 points, Ryan Spangler had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Isaiah Cousins and Je'lon Hornbeak finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Oklahoma (15-4, 4-2 Big 12), winners in three of their last four.

Kyan Anderson scored a game-high 23 points, Amric Fields donated 15 and Karviar Shepherd added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Horned Frogs (9-9, 0-6), who haven't won since Dec. 29.

Shepherd's jumper with 13:17 left tied the game at 47-47, but Oklahoma opened up a 12-2 run to take a 59-49 edge just over 2 1/2 minutes later. TCU scored seven straight to make it a one-possession game just inside the nine-minute mark.

The Sooners lead grew to six points, 65-59, after a Spangler layup, but a 7-1 burst from the Horned Frogs tied the game at 66-66 with 3:42 remaining.

Oklahoma stretched its lead to seven points, 74-67, with just 1:22 remaining and Spangler delivered the dagger, a deep 3-pointer with 35 seconds to go, to put the game out of reach.

"I guess we are getting better at playing in tight games, but we wouldn't want it like that," said Spangler. "We need to work on finishing. We always start out with the lead, and at the end of the first half we have been giving up leads."

The Sooners led 40-36 after 20 minutes.
