Air Force ties school record with NIT win

Mar 15, 2007 - 8:22 AM COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Ticker) -- Thirteen turned out to be a lucky number for Air Force.

All five starters scored 13 points as the Falcons, the top seed in the West Region, posted a 75-51 victory over Austin Peay in a first-round matchup in the National Invitation Tournament.

It was the first time all five starters scored in double figures for the Falcons since a win over Santa Clara on December 29.

Air Force (24-8) tied the school record for wins in a season and set up a meeting with Georgia on Monday in the second round.

Tim Anderson, Matt McCraw, Nick Welch, Dan Nwaelele and Jacob Burtschi each scored 13 points for the Falcons, who led 33-24 at the half despite shooting 39 percent (11-of-28) from the field.

The Falcons found their range in the second half, shooting 52 percent (14-of-27) and outscoring the Governors 42-27 over the final 20 minutes.

Fernandez Lockett scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds for Austin Peay (21-12), which won the regular-season title in the Ohio Valley Conference.
