Arizona looks to continue impressive winning streak vs. Stanford

Dec 30, 2006 - 4:10 PM Stanford (8-2) at No. 7 Arizona (10-1) 2:00 pm EST

TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Arizona is on a roll and it has carried it over to conference play.

After winning their Pac-10 opener on Thursday, the seventh-ranked Wildcats will take on conference rival Stanford on Saturday.

After losing its season opener to Virginia, Arizona has reeled off 10 straight wins, including a 94-85 victory over California in its conference opener.

The Wildcats now will try to win 11 straight games for the first time since February 17-March 31, 2001, a run that ended in disappointing fashion with an 82-72 loss to Duke in the NCAA Tournament title game.

The reigning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, Marcus Williams continued his stellar play against the Bears, scoring 21 points on 8-of-8 shooting.

Senior point guard Mustafa Shakur nearly missed a triple-double for Arizona, collecting eight points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

The Cardinal also got off to a solid start to conference play with a 71-60 victory over Arizona State on Thursday. Stanford had five scorers in double figures, including 14 points from sophomore guard Anthony Goods.

Stanford has lost its last four contests against Arizona and trails the all-time series, 46-25. The Cardinal have not won at the McKale Center since January 10, 2004.
