No. 6 Ohio State opens Big Ten schedule vs. Indiana

Jan 2, 2007 - 3:58 PM Indiana (9-3) at No. 6 Ohio State (11-2) 8:00 pm EST

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- The learning process for the young standouts on Ohio State's roster is about to get more challenging.

The sixth-ranked Buckeyes begin defense of their Big Ten regular-season title Tuesday when they host Indiana in the conference opener for both teams.

Ohio State's five freshman, led by 7-0 center Greg Oden, have helped the Buckeyes win 11 of their first 13 games. The only defeats have been against North Carolina and Florida, the last two national champions.

Daequan Cook scored 23 points, Oden added 18 and grabbed 16 rebounds and Othello Hunter had 15 points for the Buckeyes, who made 10 3-pointers in Saturday's 91-54 rout of Coppin State.

Indiana has won four straight games since a 59-54 loss to Kentucky on December 7.

D.J. White scored 16 points and Roderick Wilmont added 12 for the Hoosiers, who committed just eight turnovers in Saturday's 71-57 triumph over Ball State.

The teams are meeting for the only time in the regular season. Ohio State posted a 52-51 victory over Indiana in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament last March.
