Washington starts Pac-10 road trip at Stanford

Jan 11, 2007 - 5:55 PM No. 24 Washington (11-4) at Stanford (9-4) 10:30 pm EST

PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) - Washington starts its longest road trip of the season in the worst possible place.

The 24th-ranked Huskies play the first of three straight road games Thursday against Stanford in a Pac-10 Conference matchup.

The Huskies (11-4, 1-3) start three freshmen and a sophomore and have struggled in the Pac-10 thus far this season. Washington lost its first three conference games, two on the road, before beating Arizona State, 64-53, on Saturday.

If the Huskies are to post their first Pac-10 road win of the campaign, they will have to do it at a place where they have not had much success. Washington has lost its last 13 visits to Maples Pavilion since January 1993.

For Washington to break its Stanford jinx, the frontcourt duo of Spencer Hawes and Jon Brockman will have to come up big. A 7-foot freshman, Hawes is averaging a team-best 16.0 points while Brockman is averaging 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Stanford (9-4, 1-2) went across the country to snap its two-game skid, posting a 76-75 victory at Virginia on Sunday after dropping consecutive conference games to Arizona and California.

Forward Lawrence Hill, who averages 14.8 points and 6.1 rebounds, scored with less than a second left to help the Cardinal hand the Cavaliers their first loss of the season at the new John Paul Jones Arena.
