Vanderbilt continues home domination of Alabama

Jan 18, 2007 - 3:30 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Vanderbilt owns Alabama on its home floor and Shan Foster made sure it stayed that way.

Foster scored 27 points to lead the Commodores to a 94-73 Southeastern Conference victory over the ninth-ranked Crimson Tide.

Vanderbilt (12-6, 2-2 SEC East) beat Alabama for the ninth straight time at Memorial Coliseum, keeping the Crimson Tide winless here since 1990.

Foster was the main reason, scoring 18 points in the first half, including four 3-pointers, to help the Commodores coast to a 54-37 lead at the break.

Vanderbilt closed the opening 20 minutes with a 24-12 run that featured five 3-pointers, including a pair from Foster in the final 1:20. It was quite a turnaround for Foster, who had been 0-of-10 from the arc in his previous two games.

Dan Cage buried a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 65-44 with 16:40 remaining and Alabama never got closer than 11 points thereafter.

Derrick Byars scored 15 points, Ross Neltner added 14 and Cage and Alex Gordon 12 apiece as all five Vandy starters were in double figures. The Commodores shot 58 percent (35-of-60) from the field and hit 15-of-28 from the arc.

The Crimson Tide (14-3, 1-2 West), who fell to 2-3 on the road this season, were led by Mykal Riley with 21 points and Jermareo Davidson with 18, including 15 in the opening half.
