UCLA looks for Bay Area sweep at Stanford

Jan 28, 2007 - 3:00 PM No. 2 UCLA (18-1) at Stanford (13-5) 8:00 pm EST

PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- UCLA is aiming for a weekend sweep of the Bay Area teams. Stanford is looking for one over the Pac-10 Conference's Los Angeles-based squads.

The second-ranked Bruins look to remain atop the Pac-10 standings when they visit the upset-minded Cardinal on Sunday.

UCLA (18-1, 7-1 Pac-10) has won four straight games since absorbing its lone defeat at Oregon on January 6, including a 62-46 triumph at California on Thursday.

Arron Afflalo scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half for the Bruins, who held just a four-point lead at the break.

The Cardinal (13-5, 5-3) are coming off a 65-50 triumph over Southern California on Thursday.

Freshman Brook Lopez registered 18 points, 11 rebounds and a school-record 12 blocks for Stanford, which has won five of its last six games.

Last season, UCLA swept Stanford for the first time since winning the national championship in 1995. The Bruins went on to the NCAA title game before losing to Florida.
