No. 11 Butler looks for season sweep of Youngstown State

Jan 31, 2007 - 4:54 PM No. 11 Butler (20-2) at Youngstown St (9-13) 7:05 pm EST

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Ticker) -- Butler is reaping the benefits of protecting the basketball in a historic season.

The 11th-ranked Bulldogs can win their seventh consecutive contest and continue the best start in school history with Wednesday's visit to Youngstown State in a Horizon League matchup.

Butler (20-2, 8-1 Horizon) matched last season's victory total by winning its 20th game for the ninth time in 11 campaigns with Monday's 71-45 triumph over Illinois-Chicago. Pete Campbell scored 17 points and Mike Green added 16.

The Bulldogs limited UIC to 16 first-half points and just 29 percent (16-of-54) shooting from the floor for the contest. They committed just nine turnovers - their third straight game in single digits - and average 9.7 to rank among the nation's leaders.

Averaging just 56.0 points in its last four games, Youngstown State (9-13, 4-6) has lost six of its last eight contests.

The Penguins look to bounce back from Monday's 80-68 defeat against Loyola. Quin Humphrey scored 23 points, Keston Roberts added 18 and Jack Liles 12 with 11 rebounds for Youngstown State.

Butler has won 11 of the 13 matchups against Youngstown State and is looking to complete a sweep of the regular-season series. The Bulldogs posted a 67-39 victory over the Pirates on January 17.
