Ellis, Wichita State thump Alcorn State 87-52

Dec 1, 2009 - 3:24 AM WICHITA, Kan.(AP) -- Aaron Ellis scored a season-high 14 points to lead Wichita State to an 87-52 victory over Alcorn State on Monday night.

Garrett Stutz had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Shockers (5-1), who shot 51.7 percent from inside the 3-point line.

Alcorn State (0-9) was led JaMarkus Holt's 13 points.

The Shockers blazed to a 10-2 lead behind Ellis, who topped his previous season high of 10 points before halftime.

Alcorn State got back into the game briefly, cutting the gap to 18-14 on Michael Starks' tip-in with 9:50 remaining in the half. But the Braves, playing their ninth straight road game, made only one basket in the next nine minutes and had 19 first-half turnovers.

That allowed the Shockers to take control, cruising to a 42-24 halftime advantage. Wichita State started the second half with a 15-2 run and led by as many as 33.
