Western Michigan tops Kennesaw State 72-64

Dec 20, 2009 - 12:19 AM KALAMAZOO, Mich.(AP) -- David Kool scored 20 points and Flenard Whitfield had a double-double as Western Michigan defeated Kennesaw State 72-64 Saturday.

Whitfield had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nate Hutcheson came off the bench to add 13 points for the Broncos (4-4), while Martelle McLemore had 12.

Markeith Cummings and Kurtis Woods had a game-high 23 points each to lead Kennesaw State (4-6). Woods hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Western Michigan outrebounded the Owls 42-29 and forced 19 turnovers for 19 points. The Broncos committed 13 turnovers that Kennesaw State converted for 14 points.

The Broncos shot just 38 percent (24-63), while Kennesaw hit 47 percent of its shots (26 of 55). Western Michigan's victory came at the foul line, where the Broncos hit 21 of 27 while the Owls made 6 of 11.
