Central Connecticut State beats UMBC 89-86 in 2OT

Dec 31, 2009 - 4:51 AM NEW BRITAIN, Conn.(AP) -- Robby Ptacek scored 23 points and Central Connecticut State defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 89-86 in double overtime on Wednesday night.

Central Connecticut State trailed 82-80 with 2:36 to go in the final overtime before pulling away with seven straight points. Rosario put the Blue Devils ahead and started the run on 3-pointer with 2:11 remaining.

Vince Rosario scored 14 points, David Simmons 13 and Shemik Thompson 12 for the Blue Devils (4-7), who improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season. They defeated Albany 70-68 in OT on Dec. 12.

The Blue Devils have won 20 straight when scoring at least 80 points.

Chris De La Rosa scored 25 points and Robbie Jackson had 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Retrievers (1-11).

UMBC's Chauncey Gilliam, who finished with 12 points, tied the game at 66-66 on a layup with 38 seconds left in regulation.
