Butler seeks 10th straight win

Feb 10, 2007 - 4:12 PM No. 9 Butler (23-3) at Wright St (18-8) 7:00 pm EST

DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) -- When playing Butler, you better guard the 3-point line.

Battling for first place in the Horizon League, the 10th-ranked Bulldogs look for their 10th straight win when they take on Wright State on Saturday.

Butler (23-3, 11-1 Horizon) has hit at least 10 shots from the arc in nine of its last 11 games. On January 6, the Bulldogs used the 3-pointer as the great equalizer, draining 12 shots from the arc in a 73-42 rout of Wright State.

The Bulldogs and Raiders already have clinched the top two spots in the Horizon League but Saturday's rematch will go a long way towards determining who secures the first and second seeds in the conference tournament.

Butler set a school and conference record by making 20-of-33 shots from the arc in a 92-50 blowout of Cleveland State on Thursday.

Pete Campbell hit eight 3-pointers and scored 28 points. The versatile sixth man hit his first five shots from the arc to spark the Bulldogs to a 29-10 lead 11 minutes into the game.

It will not be easy for Butler to stay hot against streaking Wright State (18-8, 11-2), which has won a season-high six straight contests, including four on the road.

The Raiders held on for a 74-64 overtime victory over Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday.

Wright State will be playing its first home game against a ranked opponent since hosting Michigan State on December 30, 1999.
