Lehigh holds off American 78-67
Jan 10, 2010 - 2:45 AM BETHLEHEM, Pa.(AP) -- Zahir Carrington tallied a double-double, leading Lehigh over American University 78-67 on Saturday night in the Patriot League opener for both teams.Carrington scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while and Marquis Hall added 17 points with six assists for the Mountain Hawks (10-6).
Lehigh led 40-22 at the break, but American cut the halftime deficit to five points with 1:47 to play. Lehigh scored the next six points, though, making it a 73-62 game and cruised from there.
The Mountain Hawks held a 46-32 advantage in points in the paint, and outrebounded the Eagles 40-36.
Vlad Moldoveanu recorded his first career double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing a season-high 11 rebounds for the Eagles (3-13).
Lehigh has won six straight games, while American has lost five of its last six.
