Buffalo stays hot, defeats Bowling Green 68-65

Jan 15, 2010 - 2:45 AM BOWLING GREEN, Ohio(AP) -- Sean Smiley hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to send Buffalo to a 68-65 victory over Bowling Green on Thursday night.

Smiley's 3-pointer broke the game's fifth tie and he finished with 14 points as the Bulls (9-4, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) won for the sixth time in seven games. They are 5-1 on the road this season.

Bowling Green's Scott Thomas hit a 3-pointer to cut Buffalo's lead to 65-63 with 1:15 left and Dee Brown hit two free throws with 39 seconds to play to tie the score at 65.

Smiley took a pass from Rodney Pierce and hit the game-winning shot. The Falcons' Joe Jakubowski missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Pierce finished with 21 points to reach the 20-point barrier for the seventh straight game. John Boyer had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Thomas led Bowling Green (7-7, 0-2) with 21 points and Brown finished with 13.
