New Mexico shoots its way past Air Force 73-50

Jan 21, 2010 - 4:03 AM AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.(AP) -- Phillip McDonald scored 25 points to lead New Mexico to a 73-50 victory over Air Force on Wednesday night.

The Lobos (17-3, 3-2 Mountain West) beat the Falcons for the fifth consecutive time and picked up their third straight victory. Air Force (8-9, 0-4) has dropped five of its last six.

McDonald connected on 7-of-10 3-point attempts, and the Lobos hit nine of their 13 3-pointers in the second half to pull away. Conversely, the Falcons hit just 3 of 24 shots from beyond the arc.

Evan Washington led Air Force with 16 points, while Derek Brooks and Michael Lyons each added 10.

Air Force scored the first six points before New Mexico tied the game with back-to-back 3-pointers in a first half that featured three lead changes and five ties. The Lobos took a 31-24 lead to the locker room.
