Bethune-Cookman beats Hampton 57-52
Jan 24, 2010 - 2:07 AM HAMPTON, Va.(AP) -- Albert Abrahams scored 17 points, including sinking a pair of free throws with 6 seconds left, to help Bethune-Cookman hold off Hampton 57-52 on Saturday.The Wildcats were up 55-49 with 18 seconds left, but after Brandon Tunnell missed a jumper for Hampton, Darrion Pellum converted a three-point play to pull the Pirates within 55-52 with 8 seconds left. But Abrahams did his job at the charity stripe on Bethune-Cookman's final possession, securing the win.
CJ Reed added 16 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Wildcats (12-7, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won consecutive games and five of their last six.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-9 lead, holding on despite blowing that advantage early in the second half.
Bethune-Cookman outscored Hampton 30-18 in the paint.
Vincent Simpson scored 17 points for Hampton (5-13, 2-4).
