West Virginia seeks fifth straight win over Providence

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- No. 18 West Virginia has a strong case for an NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Providence has work to do.

The Big East Conference schools meet on Tuesday.

West Virginia (20-6, 8-5 Big East) has won four straight against the Friars.

Providence (16-9, 6-6) has wins over Boston College and Marquette to its credit but is just 5-6 since January 4.

Herbert Hill, a 6-10 senior, is averaging 17 points and 8.3 rebounds for the Friars. Hill has scored in double figures in all but one game this season and had 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-66 victory over St. John's on Saturday.

Providence is 15-2 at home this season.

The Mountaineers have split their last four games since a 70-65 upset of UCLA on February 10. They are coming off an 81-71 victory over Seton Hall.

Frank Young had 18 points against the Pirates and leads the Mountaineers in scoring at 14.2 per game. Young leads the Big East with 80 3-pointers.
