Brooks' 30-point outburst carries No. 24 Oregon past Washington

Feb 25, 2007 - 6:50 AM EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- This time around, Aaron Brooks and Oregon got it right.

Brooks scored 30 points to lead all five starters in double figures as the 24th-ranked Ducks posted a 93-85 triumph over Pac-10 Conference foe Washington.

Beau Poppen-Abajian netted 19 points and Bryce Taylor added 16 for Oregon, which avenged its 89-77 defeat to the Huskies in Seattle on January 25.

"The crowd was on fire," Ducks coach Ernie Kent said. "This team is playing with a tremendous amount of energy the last few games and this building has a lot to do with that. There's no place like this in the country."

Brooks made 10-of-14 shots, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. The 6-foot senior also pulled down four rebounds and sank 6-of-8 free throws.

"It was a big game for Oregon," Brooks said. "The whole team played inspired basketball. We all played great."

It was Brooks' first time on the floor with Washington's Ryan Appleby since he was ejected from last season's Pac-10 tournament game for intentionally elbowing Appleby in the face. Brooks was suspended for two games, including the first matchup between the teams this season.

"He (Brooks) played a tremendous game, considering all the circumstances," Kent said. "I am just happy that he played a great game, and he can hold his up and move on from here."

Oregon (22-7, 10-7 Pac-10) trailed, 65-64, midway through the second half before Taylor's jumper sparked a game-changing 13-2 surge, giving the Ducks the lead for good with 6:45 to go.

"We were clicking on a level I don't think we have had since the California game," Taylor said. "We just did a good job of mixing it up and not settling for the three."

Appleby scored 21 points and freshman Spencer Hawes chipped in 20 and seven rebounds for Washington, which shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field.

The Huskies (16-12, 6-10) have dropped five straight road games against ranked opponents.
