Eagles leap out early, beat Leopards 78-60
Feb 27, 2010 - 11:20 PM WASHINGTON(AP) -- Vlad Moldoveanu scored 26 points and American clinched home court in the conference quarterfinals with a 78-60 victory over Lafayette Saturday.Stephen Lumpkins added 24 points for American (10-19, 7-7 Patriot League), which will be the tournament's fourth seed after their second straight win and Navy's loss at Colgate. The Eagles will host the Midshipmen on March 3.
Ryan Willen scored 17 points as Lafayette (17-12, 8-6) was eliminated from contention for the tournament's top seed. The Leopards needed to win and have Lehigh lose to Holy Cross later Saturday.
American led 18-4 early and 45-26 at halftime after Moldoveanu's buzzer-beating 3-pointer, and 61-38 early in the second half. Lafayette edged no closer than 11 points after that.
