Feb 27, 2010 - 11:46 PM EMMITSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Shawn Atupem hit a layup with 8 seconds left and finished with 23 points as Mount St. Mary's (Md.) defeated Robert Morris 63-61 on Saturday.

Atupem, who was 8-for-8 from the field, took a pass from Kelly Beidler for the game-winning basket as the Mountaineers (15-14, 12-6 Northeast Conference) won their 10th consecutive game. Robert Morris (20-11, 15-3) lost for the second time in six games.

Robert Morris held a 61-58 lead with 1:44 remaining when Atupem took control. He dunked with 1:39 left to bring the Mountaineers within 61-60 and then tied the score on a free throw with 47 seconds to play.

He missed the second, but Robert Morris' Velton Jones turned the ball over to set up the game-winning play. Mezie Nwigwe missed a 3 with 2 seconds left.

Karon Abraham scored 12 and Rob Robinson had 10 for Robert Morris.

Beidler added 14 points for Mount St. Mary's.
