South Carolina St. beats Md.-Eastern Shore 59-53

Mar 12, 2010 - 2:43 AM WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.(AP) -- Jason Flagler scored 20 points and South Carolina State rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore 59-53 on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.

The third-seeded Bulldogs (17-13) advance to Friday's semifinal against No. 2 seed Delaware State.

The Hawks (11-21), seeded sixth, led 23-13 with 3:33 left in the first half and took a 27-20 lead into the break.

Maryland-Eastern Shore opened the second half with a Tim Burns 3-pointer, but South Carolina State then used a 16-6 run to tie the game at 36 with 11:18 to go.

The teams stayed close until the Bulldogs pulled ahead 52-48 with 3:20 remaining. The Hawks cut the lead to one with 2:16 to go, but could get no closer as South Carolina State shot 5-for-8 from the free throw line.

Hillary Haley led Maryland-Eastern Shore with 13 points.
