No. 2 UCLA ends regular season at Washington

Mar 3, 2007 - 3:15 PM No. 2 UCLA (26-3) at Washington (17-12) 2:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) - Despite clinching another Pac-10 regular-season crown, UCLA has its sights set on bigger prizes.

The second-ranked Bruins can cap their regular season with six straight victories and nine in a row in conference play when they visit Washington for a Pac-10 Conference matchup on Saturday.

After reaching last season's NCAA title game, UCLA (26-3, 15-2 Pac-10) captured its second straight regular-season conference title with Thursday's 53-45 victory over Washington State.

Arron Afflalo scored 14 points and Josh Shipp added 12 for the Bruins, who limited the Cougars to just 29 percent shooting (8-of-28) in the second half.

UCLA can win its 16th conference game for the first time in 11 seasons and keep its hopes alive for No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 11 National Championships, but none since 1995.

The Huskies (17-12, 7-10) have dropped four of their last five contests and are in seventh place in the Pac-10 standings, one game ahead of California.

Washington raised its home record to 15-2 with Thursday's 85-70 triumph over Southern California. Ryan Appleby scored 22 points and Jon Brockman had 17 for the Huskies, who went 10-of-18 from the arc.

UCLA took the earlier encounter against Washington, 96-74, on December 31. Afflalo scored 27 points, while Spencer Hawes led the Huskies with 21.
