Mar 8, 2007 - 4:09 PM Miami Fl (11-19) at No. 20 Maryland (10-6) 2:30 pm EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - No. 20 Maryland comes into the ACC tournament as the hottest team in the conference as it faces Miami in the opening round Thursday.

The Terrapins have won eight games in a row behind second team All-ACC selection D.J. Strawberry who leads the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game. He was also named to the ACC All-Defensive team along with teammate Ekene Ibekwe, an All-ACC Honorable mention selection.

Miami got the better of Maryland in the only matchup between the teams this season, 63-58, on January 10, in Maryland. Center Dwayne Collins scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hurricanes, who held Strawberry to just seven points on 1-of-8 shooting.

The Terrapins beat NC State in their regular season-finale, 79-59, behind 16 points from Strawberry. Maryland outrebounded the Wolfpack, 47-31. The team leads the ACC in field goal percentage defense at just over 39 percent, and is forcing an average of 17.4 turnovers per game.

Miami has lost three games in a row, dropping the regular-season finale 98-90 in overtime to Florida State. Guard Jack McClinton, a third team All-ACC selection, poured in 31 points, but could not match the 45 that Seminoles forward Al Thornton dropped on the Hurricanes.

Miami holds a 7-5 edge in the all-time series over the Terrapins.

The winner advances to face No. 4 seed Boston College in the quarterfinals.
