Willis helps UNLV rout TCU

Jan 9, 2011 - 7:04 AM Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Tre'Von Willis scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help 25th-ranked UNLV beat TCU, 83-49, at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Willis added five steals and three assists for the Runnin' Rebels (13-3, 1-1 MWC), who rebounded from Wednesday's loss to No. 15 BYU in their conference opener.

Chace Stanback had 15 points and seven boards, while Justin Hawkins tallied 13 in the win.

"Really, really solid effort for 40 minutes...both defensively and offensively", said UNLV head coach Lon Kruger.

Garlon Green paced the Horned Frogs (9-8, 0-2) with 11 points.

Down four early in the contest, UNLV broke the game open with a 24-0 burst to go up 32-12. The run started with Carlos Lopez converting two free throws, and Willis made a pair at the foul line, capping the surge with 7:55 left.

The Rebels led 49-28 at halftime and TCU closed to within 17 at 57-40, but UNLV responded with the next 11 points to effectively put the game out of reach.

Game Notes

TCU committed 23 turnovers that resulted in 32 points for the Rebels...Hank Thorns had nine points and five assists for TCU...UNLV shot 50.8 percent from the field while limiting the Horned Frogs to 31.4 percent.
