Hofstra hires Mihalich

Apr 10, 2013 - 6:28 PM Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Hofstra named Joe Mihalich as its new head men's basketball coach on Wednesday.

Mihalich was the coach at Niagara for the past 15 seasons, compiling a 265-203 record to go along with a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and three National Invitation Tournament appearances.

The 56-year-old Mihalich replaces Mo Cassara, who was fired March 22 following a 7-25 season.

"I can't begin to express the excitement and enthusiasm I have for this wonderful opportunity," said Mihalich. "I am incredibly grateful and thankful to President Stuart Rabinowitz and Jeff Hathaway for the chance to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball program. I look forward to bringing an exciting and winning brand of basketball to Hofstra. My family and I are so excited to start this new journey. Go Pride!"

Mihalich guided the Purple Eagles to a 19-14 mark this past season, while capturing the regular-season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title and advancing to the NIT. He was named the 2013 MAAC Coach of the Year.
