Hofstra coach Mihalich agrees to extension

Jun 1, 2015 - 6:01 PM Hempstead, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Hofstra head men's basketball coach Joe Mihalich has received a contract extension following a 20-win season in 2014-15.

Mihalich guided the Pride to a 20-14 record this past season, his second at Hofstra after a successful 15-year run at Niagara. The Pride earned a berth in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament, the program's first postseason appearance since 2011.

"We are very pleased with the work that Joe and his staff has done over the last two years," Hofstra athletics director Jeffrey Hathaway said. "When Coach Mihalich joined our staff he was the perfect choice and that thought certainly continues today. He has done an excellent job interacting and building relationships with our current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, donors and members of the Hofstra community. Joe has enhanced our success in the classroom and on the court.

"The future is very bright for the Hofstra Basketball program under Joe's leadership and I'm thrilled that the contract extension will enable him to be at Hofstra for many years to come."

Mihalich owns a 294-240 overall record over 17 seasons as a Division I head coach. The 58-year-old took Niagara to two NCAA Tournaments and three NIT berths prior to leaving for Hofstra following the 2012-13 season.
