Chattanooga selects Wade as new men's hoops coach
May 13, 2013 - 4:02 PM Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga has named Will Wade as its new men's basketball coach.Wade had been an assistant at VCU for the past four seasons, helping the Rams to four straight postseason appearances, including a surprising run to the 2011 Final Four.
"After an extensive search, Will Wade distanced himself from a strong group of candidates as the clear choice to lead our men's basketball program," said Chattanooga athletic director David Blackburn on Monday. "He has been a major piece of VCU's success over the last four years and we feel he will bring our program back to a championship level."
Wade, a Nashville native, joined VCU after two years as an assistant at Harvard. He was also part of the program at his alma mater, Clemson, spending time as a graduate assistant and director of operations.
"I could not be more excited about the opportunity to lead the Chattanooga basketball program," said Wade. "We will build a program the student-athletes, alumni, and fans all take great pride in. We will employ a fast paced, pressing style of play similar to VCU. I cannot wait to get to work."
Wade will replace John Shulman, who was fired in March after nine seasons and a record of 145-146 with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
