Parker, Duke dominate NC State

Jan 18, 2014 - 11:59 PM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jabari Parker broke out of his mid-season slump with a team-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds, as No. 23 Duke cruised to a 95-60 triumph over North Carolina State at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

After scoring 20-or-more points in 10 of his first 12 collegiate games, Parker had been held under the 20-point plateau in each of his last five games.

However, the freshman phenom found his rhythm Saturday, sinking half of his 14 shots from the field, including both of his 3-point tries, to help the Blue Devils (14-4, 3-2 ACC) remain unbeaten at home (11-0) thanks to their 27th straight win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

"I think [the keys were] my preparation and just my experience from the last couple of games," Parker said of breaking out of his slump. "I just had to be a little bit more prepared going in and avoid the [NC State] scouting report on what they want me to do rather than what I have to do."

Rasheed Sulaimon supplied 13 points, Rodney Hood and Andre Dawkins each had 11, and Quinn Cook contributed 10 points in the win.

T.J. Warren registered 23 points and eight rebounds to lead NC State (11-7, 1-4), which has lost three straight and four of its last five games.

"We turned the ball over too many times," NC State head coach Mark Gottfried remarked. "We've got to obviously be a lot stronger with the basketball, and they took turnovers and turned them into baskets, which was the biggest difference in the game."

Warren's 3-pointer had the Wolfpack within 17-16 less than eight minutes into the game, but Hood, Cook and Parker each poured in a triple during a decisive 14-4 Duke surge that increased the spread to 11 with 6:57 left in the half.

The Blue Devils built their lead as high as 15 twice over the final six minutes of the first frame before carrying a 45-32 lead into the break.

Duke extended the margin early in the second, as Parker netted five points in a 7-0 sprint that pushed the cushion to 54-34 with 16:25 on the clock.

With the difference at 21 with just under nine minutes left, the home team put the game away with an 18-4 flurry that Sulaimon capped with three free throws for a 35-point Duke lead with under five minutes to play.
