Ware cleared to play at Georgia State

Jun 19, 2014 - 2:38 PM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Ware has been cleared to play by the NCAA and will be on the court for the Georgia State men's basketball team this fall.

Ware transferred from Louisville to be closer to his home in Atlanta. He played nine games for the Cardinals as a junior last year after recovering from one of the most gruesome on-court injuries in recent memory -- a compound fracture of his lower right leg suffered during an Elite Eight victory over Duke in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Georgia State said it expects Ware will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

"I am really excited for Kevin and his family," said Georgia State coach Ron Hunter in a statement Thursday. "This is another huge boost for our team as Kevin is a talented guard who adds another dynamic to our roster. He has been working hard since his arrival and been welcomed by the team. I expect him to continue to work hard as we prepare for the upcoming season."

Ware played sparingly during his brief stint last season and averaged just 1.7 points. He had a solid sophomore season before the injury, contributing 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in a reserve role for a team that went on to win the national championship.
