Tennessee looks maintain perfect record

Nov 16, 2007 - 3:57 PM Prairie View (1-1) at No. 7 Tennessee (2-0) 7:30 pm EST

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - Chris Lofton is off to a slow start, but Tennessee is not.

Lofton and the seventh-ranked Volunteers look for a third straight win when they host Prairie View A&M on Friday in the second round of the 2007 Legends Classic.

Lofton, who was voted the Southeastern Conference's preseason Player of the Year, has scored just 15 points on 3-for-15 shooting in the first two games.

Lofton's slump mattered little on Wednesday as JaJuan Smith, Tyler Smith and Ramar Smith combined for 41 points in a 101-44 win over Division II Arkansas-Monticello.

JaJuan Smith led the way scoring 15 points for Tennessee, which shot 57 percent (39-of-55) and is averaging 90.5 points through the first two games.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, the Volunteers will play West Virginia in the championship game on November 23 at the Prudential Center. Bruce Pearl's squad will then meet the winner of New Mexico and Texas the following night.

Meanwhile, Prairie View is coming off a 88-59 win over Schreiner University on Wednesday. Dorian McDaniel led the Panthers with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.
