Duquesne overcomes poor shooting to beat Robert Morris 72-65

Dec 19, 2015 - 9:40 PM PITTSBURGH (AP) Derrick Colter made 11 straight free throws and scored 19 points to send Duquesne past crosstown rival Robert Morris 72-65 Saturday.

Colter and backcourt-mate Micah Mason combined to shoot just 7-for-32 from the field. Mason finished with 10 points and Eric James came off the bench to score 13 points with eight rebounds.

Duquesne (10-2) is off to its best since the 1979-80 season. The Dukes tied a school record for pre-New Year's Day wins set in 1953-54 when they started 10-0. Duquesne plays at Georgia Tech Dec. 29.

Rodney Pryor's 3 with 3:43 left brought the Colonials to within 62-60. But the Dukes went 10 for 10 from the free-throw line down the stretch. The Colonials scored just two field goals after Pryor's 3.

Elijah Minnie finished with 23 points and Pryor had 22 for Robert Morris (2-10).
