Arizona continues four-game run at home against Virginia
Nov 17, 2007 - 2:17 PM Virginia (2-0) at No. 17 Arizona (1-0) 10:30 pm ESTTUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) - No. 17 Arizona plays the second of four consecutive home games to open the regular season Saturday, facing off against non-conference opponent Virginia.
The Wildcats, under interim head coach Kevin O'Neill, opened the regular season with a 76-69 victory over Northern Arizona. The Wildcats committed only five turnovers, but needed a combined 17-of-17 effort from sophomore forward Chase Budinger and senior guard Jawann McClellan to pull out the victory.
Budinger finished with 25 points, while freshman guard Jerryd Bayless had 18 and McClellan 15 for Arizona.
Virginia comes into the game averaging 91 points on 51.6 percent shooting and has outrebounded its opponents by an average of 23 per game. Senior guard Sean Singletary is averaging 21 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
Junior swingman Mamadi Diane and senior forward Adrian Joseph are each averaging 12 points for Virginia, while sophomore guard Calvin Baker is averaging 11 points. The Cavaliers were 4-1 against ranked teams in 2006-07.
The contest is the fifth between the two teams with the series tied at two victories each. Saturday's game will mark the fourth consecutive season that the teams have met.
